Brand Spotlight: Anamika Khanna

by | May 27, 2020

First launching her international label in 2004, fashion designer Anamika Khanna is a revered figure in the fashion industry. Fusing the rich cultural style of India with contemporary Western design, Khanna’s works have graced the likes of Paris Fashion Week, India Couture Week and Lakme Fashion Week.

Façon strongly advocates for powerful fashion females and, with the most recent release of her New Delhi Spring/Summer 2020 Collection, Façon celebrates Khanna’s designs in this latest Brand Spotlight.

Operating from her Kolkata-based studio, Anamika Khanna’s designs have travelled all across the globe. Her most recent New Delhi Spring/Summer 2020 Collection was showcased at the Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week in late 2019, boasting an eclectic range of unique patterns and billowy fabrics. Presenting with the theme #MyFashionMyTribe, Khanna fuses both traditional and contemporary Indian designs.

Façon’s top three picks of the collection are:

This co-ord set. We particularly love the earthy tones interlaced with the vibrant pops of colour in the look. The billowy, flowing fabric creates an airy sense of movement whilst the fitted waistline and long sleeve top create contrast and add shape.

This red embroidered ensemble. The red, patterned fabric is a highlight of this look. Accentuated with ruffles along the colour and fluted sleeves, the garment has a lightweight sense to it. The look is perfectly paired with black accents panelled across the trousers and around the waist.

This vibrant ensemble. The loud colours of this piece meld together effortlessly as the one-shoulder draped top draws the eye down to the wide-leg flowy pants.

Another recent collection of Khanna’s was her Ready to Wear ‘AK-OK Collection’ which hosts a significant amount of meaning to the designer. With both of her sons studying at university across the globe, Khanna faced great difficulty whilst she battled illness. When explaining the title of her collection to Vogue India, Khanna stated, “During the height of the 1960s USA Space Program, NASA invented the term A-OK, apparently because the sharp sound of an A could cut through static and space easier. Harnessing the transmission power of the term A-OK and adding a personal twist of my initials, A-OK became AK-OK—a code that would travel back and forth between us over 13,000 km and four years. Using that mantra as a starting point, I wanted to wear them loud and proud on our clothes.

Some of Façon’s favourites from the collection include:

The AK-OK Belted Kimono. The striking pattern alongside the unique silhouette of this piece really sets the garment apart. The team at Façon adore the cinched waistline!

The Collage Print Shirt Dress. This asymmetrical collared dress is particularly eye-catching. The silky white fabric contrasted with the red punch of colour and unique print is a stunning blend of fashion-meets-art.

The AK-OK Parachute Lehenga. With the same print featured before, this billowy piece evokes an air of sporty chic.
