Brand Spotlight: Nusa Indah Surfboards
During these difficult times, the team at Façon continue to support and encourage small, local businesses from Newcastle and Australian-owned business across the country. Making a splash in the fashion world with her unique surfboard designs, Wallabi Point local Jada Stanley, founded her business Nusa Indah Surfboards in 2009. She has since cemented her brand in the minds of fashion lovers as the go-to for stylish surfboards.
With an innate love of surfing established at age 5, it was natural for Stanley to incorporate the activity into her career. Spicing up the traditional surfboard design and print, Nusa Indah Surfboards features bespoke designs with eye-catching colours and prints.
These very designs sparked the interest of Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, leading to Nusa Indah’s Vogue collaboration. Rendered with some of the magazine’s archival covers, the exclusively designed 6’1” boards were launched at a beach-themed cocktail party at Gurney’s Montauk in the Hamptons in August 2019. The vibrant board designs have also been featured in the likes of Elle, Home Beautiful, Inside Out, Real Living, Tracks Magazine and Hollywood Reporter. Stanley credits her time spent on the Island of Bali as her inspiration for Nusa Indah, seeing her first surfboard creation in 2009 featuring a green floral batik pattern sourced during her
honeymoon visit to Indonesia.
With her initial goal of introducing the surf culture of Australia to New York and beyond, it is safe to say that Stanley has succeeded in this task, with Vogue describing her designs as
“bringing art to the ocean”.
