BYRON BAY: WHERE TO STAY, PLACES TO SHOP, UNIQUE EXPERIENCES AND BEST SPOTS
FOR LIVE MUSIC AND SUNDOWNERS.

The perpetual destination for free spirits, surfers, musicians and multi-millionaires, Byron Bay has a laidback surf culture that has made it an international hotspot for those chasing the perfect surf break, warm currents, trendy bars, boutique shopping and luxury accommodation. Encapsulating the bohemian nature of the hippies who first made the trek north, Byron Bay has also become a mecca for musical festivals and has found a new generation of revellers seeking self-discovery, good vibes and powerful beats. This Escape is guest edited by Annalise McLachlan, international model, muse and festival queen.

Fly Pelican offers direct flights to Byron Bay six days a week for your convenience. To book flights visit flypelican.com.au and for more Byron Bay inspiration check out Annalise’s instagram @annalisemclachlan

WHERE TO STAY

There are so many beautiful places to stay when visiting Byron Bay, but for me, Byron really represents an escape from reality and for the ultimate beachfront escape I can’t go past Raes at Wategos.

The interiors are to die for and surpass even my dreams. I could easily spend the day lying beside the tranquil pool, and the rooms are the epitome of luxury. For a bush-escape, The Byron at Byron is a very luxurious, unique stay.

Surrounded by Byron’s beautiful bushland, you feel like you are sleeping in nature. Set among lush rainforest, the resort also offers a wonderful spot to truly reconnect with yourself and nature, and I always take the time to wander the gardens and indulge in a deep-healing massage during my stay.

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK

Byron Bay is famous for its live music culture and outdoor venues. You’ll be absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat and drink, but on every traveller’s bucket list should be a visit to The Beach Hotel.

Sit back and enjoy an afternoon drink under the summer sun, share one of their pizzas and listen to a live gig. As the sunsets, head home and get ready for a night on the town.

The Loft has amazing cocktails and also a great selection of share plates, including vegan options. The vibe is laid back, light and airy and it’s the perfect place for a relaxed night out.

Come morning, clear the head with a swim in the warm crystal-clear water and then head to Folk for brunch. Committed to vegetarian and plant-based eating, it’s my absolute favourite for nourishing, organic food and always offers a welcoming atmosphere.

WHERE TO SHOP

Byron Bay is home to so many amazing designers and it’s easy to see where they get their inspiration from. Byron is a melting pot of nationalities, all bringing with them their own sense of style and individuality.

For amazing home and lifestyle pieces, accessories and clothing I always stop by Hope and May. It has a great selection of swimwear.

Pampa has a gorgeous selection of handmade rugs, cushions, throws and accessories. For a completely unique piece, it even offers bespoke rugs. For clothing, Spell and the Gypsy Collective is my all-time favourite boutique. It also has really individual pieces that I incorporate into my festival outfits and my everyday.

A visit to their little store is an absolute must, as is Miss Brown Vintage, which is all about ethical clothing, specialising in vintage denim and re-modified vintage.
