Must-Have Spring/Summer Accessories 2020

Is it just me or are the warmer months taking forever to come around? After isolating and lounging around in sweats for the past few months, I am itching to get out my maxi dresses and put together my spring/summer wardrobe. With this year’s throwbacks and reminiscing on the good times, fashion trends are emerging from various decades, dominating streetstyle and lockdown fits. For this reason, spring and summer are predicted to be accessory heavy featuring lots of pretty prints and tonal colours.

So, let us give you the rundown on this season’s must-haves!

Sun Hats

Over the past year, we have seen hats evolve from being just another summer necessity to an outright statement. Playing a crucial role in any beach day or vacation, we can see some more playful prints and colours being introduced. So, what’s hot this season?

The controversial bucket hat – let’s face it, you either love them or you hate them. Earlier this year, Chanel introduced terrycloth logo bucket hats into their effortless summer looks in the Cruise 2021 virtual show. Becoming a must-have, brands all over the world are tackling their take on the accessory.

Let’s not forget the straw hats, returning every summer bigger and better, they have been around for years! I mean is it really summer if you don’t wear a huge straw hat? Elevating even the simplest look, they make the perfect summer accessory. We love Australian Designer Label, Lack of Colour, check out their collection here!

Sunglasses

Big, small, square or sporty, sunglasses are the accessory this season. With the ability to transform an entire outfit, they are being used to create a statement. Most recently, square and narrow sunglasses can be seen everywhere. Giving us major throwbacks to the 90s, they’re sleek and understated, ready to be paired with anything. The ever so famous cat eye sunglasses are still prominent in streetwear fashion. Retro and chic, they make the perfect addition to your beach outfit! Looking for something a little more fun? Try some tinted translucent lenses. Mood-boosting and fun, designers world-wide are introducing a pop of colour through sunglasses and accessories in their collections this year. Check out these lilac ones for some inspiration.

Beach Bags

As we welcome the warmer months, we can expect to be spending a lot more time lazing at the beach. Arguably, one of the biggest summer statements remains to be the beach bag. Made to carry your SPF, beach towel, water bottle and snacks, they are a summer must-have! My current obsession? The entire Jacquemus bag collection, but in particular the Jacquemus Le Panier Soleil. Sporting ultimate vacation vibes, it’s the perfect bag to take on your next picnic or down to the beach.

Platforms

All through A/W we witnessed chunky sneakers and boots, both in the streets and on the runway and by the looks of things this trend isn’t disappearing anytime soon. With platform sandals predicted to rule footwear through Spring and Summer, we can expect to see some true works of art. From wood to woven, patterned to simplistic, designer brands such as Stuart Weitzman and Stella McCartney are taking sandals to new heights.

 Jewellery

Last but not least – jewellery! Artful earrings have been a big trend this year and we are expected to see more coming into summer. With celebrities and influencers opting for gold over silver, layered necklaces and statement earrings are the jewellery of choice. Popular in both streetwear and evening wear, designers have explored sculptural earrings in various forms. Wanting to turn some heads? Shoe jewellery is trending massively this summer. Fashion house, Oscar de la Renta, are now creating footwear with attached chains and other embellishments, proving jewellery isn’t just for your wrists, ears and neck anymore.

So, there you have it, our Spring/Summer must-have accessories! With summer predicted to be a hot one this year, it’s time to get your summer wardrobe sorted. Whilst we are all wanting to make the most out of these warmer months, it’s important to remember to stay sun safe and to be kind to yourself and others, wear a mask when around other people & let’s all take care of each other!
