New Generation AFW 2025: Bright, Brave and Brilliantly Diverse
Last Friday morning, 16 May 2025, Carriageworks crackled with unmistakable energy as the New Generation runway unleashed five fresh labels onto the Australian Fashion Week stage. A technicolour showcase of Australia’s fashion future, BOTEH, Buluuy Mirrii, HALUMINOUS, Miimi & Jiinda, and Permanent Vacation left the crowd thoroughly impressed.
BOTEH opened with Tide & Terra, a breezy resort chapter of dip-dyed linens, macramé trims and washed-pastel prints that caught the easy rhythm of sun-faded coastlines. Layered jewels and stacked sandals sealed the carefree mood.
Buluuy Mirrii followed, turning designer Colleen Tighe Johnson’s journey from a railway tent in Moree to global runways into a powerful narrative of Gomeroi pride; aquamarine hand-painted motifs, bangles and black pumps proved cultural storytelling can walk tall in a modern silhouette.
HALUMINOUS slowed the pulse with Liminal Space: jersey hoods veiled in glass beads and bamboo knits that traced a Jung-inspired path from shadow to light.
Miimi & Jiinda brought dawn to the room with Bambuuda Garlaawirr (Morning Light); flowing gowns paired with grass-woven accessories by Elder Lauren Jarrett and touches of traditional possum skin, merging sustainability and soul.
Permanent Vacation closed with Aura, a study in cocooning trenches and tonal layering—gentle greys and healing purples cut with just enough masculine bite for urban ease.
New Generation wasn’t just a runway; it was a promise that Australia’s next wave is ready, willing and already redefining what comes next… Australia’s fashion future is bright, brave and brilliantly diverse.
