Saretta The Label Takes Its Story to Melbourne Fashion Week
There are some milestones that feel particularly special to celebrate, and Saretta The Label’s Melbourne Fashion Week debut is one of them.
On 19 October, Wonnarua artist Saretta Fielding brought her contemporary wearable art to the runway at the National Gallery of Victoria as part of ganbu marra, Melbourne Fashion Week’s opening showcase celebrating First Nations fashion, culture and creativity.
Meaning ‘one mob’ in Woi Wurrung, ganbu marra brought together First Nations designers for an evening of powerful storytelling through fashion. Saretta’s collection translated her distinctive Aboriginal artwork onto luxurious silks and flowing silhouettes, with vibrant prints, considered draping and versatile pieces that blurred the line between art and fashion. Each look carried a story, connecting culture and Country with contemporary design.
For us at Façon, seeing Saretta The Label reach this milestone feels especially meaningful. We had the honour of working with Saretta to bring her fashion label to life through Façon Creative, making this moment on the runway all the more rewarding to witness.
Our connection extends beyond the label, with Saretta also joining us as an art mentor for the 2026 The Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship (TISS), sharing her knowledge and creative experience with the next generation of Indigenous storytellers.
Watching Saretta’s work take its place on such a significant platform is an incredible achievement and a reminder of the importance of backing creative talent, sharing stories and creating opportunities for the next generation.
A milestone well worth celebrating.
