Song for the Mute X ADIDAS 007: A Drop of Nostalgia
ADI007 marks the seventh collaboration between Song for the Mute and Adidas Originals, continuing the duo’s exploration of nostalgia, uniformity and imperfection. Drawing from the visual language of mismatched childhood uniforms and everyday adolescence, the collection reconstructs familiar references into something deeply considered and emotionally resonant.
SFTM TOKYO
The footwear offering within ADI007 explores two distinct references to youth, balancing sport and structure through reworked classics.
The SFTM TOKYO draws from vintage school sports shoes with lightweight nylon and mesh uppers, crushed elasticated heels and paint-splattered suede overlays, while distressed outsoles evoke movement and wear over time.
SAMBA LX FREIZEIT
In contrast, the SAMBA LX FREIZEIT references the traditional school shoe through structured brown and glossy black leathers, reinforced welt detailing and protective taped finishes. Across both silhouettes, muted tones and off-white suede accents ground the collection in the nostalgic visual language of worn uniforms and adolescence.
Apparel throughout ADI007 mirrors the instinctive, assembled nature of school dressing. Cotton twill track jackets feature plaid inserts that fold into themselves, allowing the garments to collapse into compact forms, while lightweight nylon hoods appear almost secondary in function. Slubbed knit rugby shirts introduce mismatched striping and contrasting sleeves, reinforcing the collection’s intentionally imperfect composition and its allusion to common school uniform designs. Elsewhere, sports shorts are positioned alongside tailored pin-tuck trousers, creating tension between discipline and ease.
Accessories continue the narrative through washed waxed cotton caps and softly structured canvas totes detailed with handwritten motifs reminiscent of names scrawled across school bags.
