THE ART OF KEEPING TIME: BANKS IS REIMAGINING THE EVERYDAY WATCH

As fashion embraces considered consumption and enduring personal style, Sydney-born Banks Timepieces is making a case for the return of the classic wristwatch.

There was a time when a watch was an essential part of getting dressed. Today, it’s less a necessity, more an expression of personal style. And there's something undeniably appealing about a beautifully proportioned timepiece peeking from beneath a shirt cuff.

As fashion continues its fascination with quiet luxury and timeless wardrobe staples, the classic wristwatch is finding renewed relevance. Among the independent labels embracing this movement is Banks Timepieces, a female-founded Australian brand bringing a fresh perspective to accessible luxury.

Founded in Sydney by Danielle Hodges (née Eid), Banks emerged from a noticeable gap in the watch market. At one end, prestigious heritage houses offered exceptional craftsmanship with equally significant price tags. At the other, trend-driven fashion watches often prioritised aesthetics over longevity. Somewhere between the two, Hodges saw an opportunity.

First conceived in 2019 and officially launched in July 2025, Banks was developed around a simple philosophy: thoughtful design and quality materials shouldn't necessarily demand a luxury price tag.

Designed in Sydney and crafted using Swiss movements, sapphire crystal glass and premium materials, the collection favours clean lines, balanced proportions and an understated aesthetic. These are watches intended to complement a wardrobe rather than compete with it.

It's an approach that feels particularly relevant as consumers increasingly gravitate towards pieces that transcend seasons. The right watch, much like a beautifully tailored blazer or classic leather handbag, has the ability to elevate even the simplest ensemble.

A defining moment arrived in May 2026, when Banks was named the ‘Official Timepiece Partner’ of ESSE's Resort 2026 presentation at Australian Fashion Week. The runway collaboration felt particularly fitting, bringing together two Australian labels with a shared appreciation for refined silhouettes, thoughtful design and understated sophistication.

While the brand continues to grow, its focus remains on a tightly curated collection rather than constant reinvention. In an industry often preoccupied with what's new, there's something refreshing about that restraint.

After all, the most compelling accessories aren't necessarily the ones demanding attention. They're the pieces we find ourselves reaching for, season after season.

And perhaps that's the real luxury of time.
