Miimi & Jiinda Returns to Paris With Migaana
One year after making its European debut, Miimi & Jiinda is returning to Paris, this time with Migaana, a collection that brings original artwork from canvas to silk and marks a refined new chapter for the Gumbaynggirr artist-led fashion house.
Founded by artist and creative director Melissa Greenwood, Miimi & Jiinda will present Migaana as part of the Australian Fashion Council’s Global Gateways: Paris 2026 program, introducing the collection to international buyers, editors and industry across Paris Fashion Week. It also marks the first instalment of the brand’s new Day to Night series.
For Greenwood, fashion has always begun somewhere else: with painting.
At the heart of Migaana is an original painting created collaboratively by Greenwood and her mother, Lauren Jarrett. Passed back and forth between the pair as it developed, the work became a shared expression shaped across generations. In silk, that still artwork takes on another energy, shifting with light, folding around the body and moving with its wearer.
That sense of movement runs throughout the collection.
Migaana is a Gumbaynggirr word speaking to revolving, rotating and moving through cycles, with the collection drawing inspiration from rhythms experienced within Country: tides coming and going, seasons turning and light changing across the landscape.
There is also a noticeable evolution in Miimi & Jiinda’s expression of luxury. Crafted predominantly in substantial 19-momme silk, Migaana moves between bias-cut slips, fluid shirts, wide-leg trousers, wraps and refined tailoring, with French seams and considered construction carrying the same sense of care through to the inside of each garment.
“Why shouldn’t Indigenous culture be associated with luxury? The stories I paint are stories of Country. They are stories of family, culture and lived experience. I hold them with deep reverence. To me, those stories deserve a beautiful canvas,” Greenwood says.
The palette moves through Ochre Country, Rosella Dusk and Sea & Sky, designed to shift with the light and movement of silk. Every Migaana garment being presented in Paris has also been designed and made in Australia, allowing the Miimi & Jiinda team to remain closely involved in each piece, from fit through to final detail.
At the same time, Migaana introduces a distinctly practical kind of elegance through Day to Night. Inspired by Greenwood’s own experience moving between motherhood, the studio, work, travel, gatherings and evenings, the concept rejects the idea that a woman must reinvent herself, or her wardrobe, for every different part of her day.
“I wanted pieces that could move with her. Beautiful enough for an evening, effortless enough for the day, and considered enough to become pieces she returns to again and again,” Greenwood says.
Migaana will be presented in Paris as part of the SS27 womenswear season at the AFC Global Gateways Showroom from 30 September to 4 October 2026.
Closer to home, Greenwood is also an alumna of Façon’s Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship, making Miimi & Jiinda’s continued international evolution particularly special to watch.
